A couple of months ago, I tidied up my stash. To give you a bit of an idea, most of my yarn lives in a reasonably sized box under the bed and most of it is 8ply acrylic for amigurumi crafting. When I stopped making amis... well, you can imagine.
Somehow I stumbled upon Lattes and Llamas' Geek-A-Long. It seemed like a great way to clear out some of that stash yarn. Unfortunately my first "square" came out more chunky, ugly rectangle and I abandoned the project after less than one and a half squares.

It's starting to get difficult to find places to photograph such a large piece. |
Then a Reddit user posted their progress on the Sophie's Universe CAL. It was gorgeous, offered options for multiple yarn weights and seemed like a more challenging way to clear out the stash. Or it started that way - I bought yarn after only eight rounds. Whoops!
I'm currently blocking (for a second time - ugh!) after completing part 9 and loving it. It's not often I learn new stitches and it's fascinating watching the whole thing come together. It's kept the whole experience from getting stale (I'm horribly guilty of getting bored and not finishing things).

Trixie - who believes she is the rightful owner of the blanket - seemed very concerned when I started blocking. |
But mostly I'm intrigued by the colours. Being a stash cleanout project, I expected it to be hideous. And it is, in a psychedelic, vintage kind of way. But the colours also flow beautifully outwards from the centre as Sophie's Universe grows and I'm finding myself just staring at sections of it, mesmerised by how it blends together.
Plus it's going to be huge! At the end of part 9 of 20, it's 1.28m. It's meant to be 1.5m on completion. Whoops!

So in love with all the flowers... |
What are you working on at the moment? Do you enjoy community projects or are you more of a solo bee like I usually am?

You can also find the Sophie's Universe CAL on Ravelry. If you're already working on it, make sure to add yourself to the Sophie's Universe Map! I also recommend following Dedri - the creator of Sophie's Universe - on Instagram.
